Pregnancy Imaging
More women choose to have their baby scans at Horizon Radiology than anywhere else in Auckland.
We have friendly experts in obstetrics and gynaecology who are ready to guide you through the various stages of your pregnancy, from the scan in the first few months that checks your due date and for twins, through to third trimester assessments of growth and well-being.
Nuchal Translucency is a scan that uses ultrasound to assess your developing baby’s risk of having Down syndrome and some other chromosomal abnormalities, as well as major congenital heart problems. It uses ultrasound to measure the thickness of the fluid build-up at the back of the developing baby’s neck.
All our procedures are painless and safe for both mother and baby.
Images are available on a USB stick for an extra fee at some of our clinics. Please feel free to enquire about this when you are booking your appointment with one of our friendly booking staff.
X-Rays
At Horizon Radiology, we use the latest digital technology to produce the highest quality x-ray images at the lowest possible cost.
By moving to digital we can view x-rays on the spot and send files over our secure authorised Internet to your specialist. If we find any abnormalities in your immigration, chest or general x-rays, we will discuss these with your specialist.

We can provide you with a copy of your x-ray images on a CD ($15.00) or USB stick ($25.00).
You can request the USB stick at the time of your examination or later if required.

Ultrasounds
What is ultrasound?
Ultrasound uses a transducer that sends out sound waves at a frequency too high to be heard. The sound waves bounce off the organs and return to the transducer and are then converted by a computer into an electronic picture of the organs or tissues.
Steroid Injections
Our radiologists use ultrasound guidance to identify the exact spot for steroid injection into your joint or tendon (as opposed to ‘going in blind’).
Steroids are often injected directly into joints to treat conditions such as rheumatoid arthritis, gout, or other inflammatory diseases. Cortisone injections can offer fast-acting relief of inflamed muscles, tendons and bursa.
In most cases, the needle used is very small so there’s no need to worry if you have a needle phobia.
Steroid injections are performed at our Henderson, Northcote and Sylvia Park clinics.

Immigration X-rays
Horizon Radiology is approved to perform New Zealand Immigration chest x-rays.
Our Manukau clinic is part of the onshore panel physician network for Immigration New Zealand.

Pelvic Scans
A pelvic scan usually involves a transvaginal scan as well to obtain a more detailed look at your pelvic organs.
A thin ultrasound probe is gently passed into the vagina and moved into different positions in order to visualise the uterus and ovaries clearly. Your privacy will be respected at all times and there will be a chaperone present if your sonographer is male or you can request a female sonographer at the time of booking. It is not always appropriate to do a transvaginal scan and we will always ask for your consent before we proceed.
